Ibiza is one of the Balearic Islands and is one of the most popular destinations with British holiday makers. Indeed the sea around Ibiza is some of the most clear and clean water in the Mediterranean and the gently shelving sand make it ideal for paddling swimming and water sports. Many of the beaches here also hold the EEC Blue Flags for cleanliness and safety.
Ibiza also has many beautiful long sandy beaches and small coves. Where ever you are on this small island you are never far from somewhere to swim and sunbathe.
Eating out in Ibiza can be as chilled out or as formal as you desire and you can choose to eat by the beaches under the stars while listening to the gentle sounds of the sea or on a shady terrace of a beautiful traditional country restaurant or get your glad rags on and head to on of the famous and fashionable restaurants of Ibiza Town.
Ibiza is an island with many identities. It is perhaps most famous for the amazing and sometimes wild nightlife which can be found in San Antonio and Ibiza town. San Antonio Town is where most of the action happens. Here you will find many bars and clubs as well as the infamous West End. There are some hotels here too and these tend to be populated by the young and lively who are here to enjoy the nightlife. San Antonio Bay is the quieter alternative. Here you have easy access to the nightlife of the town as well as a good selection of bars which are suitable for families as well as many restaurants. There are numerous hotels in the Bay and many are very family friendly offering play parks and kids clubs as well as evening entertainment.
At the other side of San Antonio Town you will find the small resort of Cala Gracio. This resort has a couple of lovely coves which are great for sunbathing and swimming. There is not much in the way of nightlife in the resort itself but the famous sunset bars which include Café Del Mar and Café Mambo are just a 20 minute walk away. The views of the sunset from this strip are the best on the island and the atmosphere is very special. If you cant stretch to the prices of these bars then grab a beer from the supermarket and enjoy the view and same atmosphere from the rocks below them. The bright lights of San Antonio town are just beyond and easy to reach on foot or by taxi.
Families who are looking for an altogether more relaxing stay frequently head to Playa den Bossa or the smaller resort of Es Cana. Playa den Bossa has a great selection of shops, bars and hotels which tend to be family friendly. Younger crowds can also be found here on certain days as the resort is also home to famous Bora Bora beach and bar and nightclub Space. Es Cana is a small resort. Primarily it is a family resort and most entertainment is hotel based although there is a decent selection of bars too and a simply stunning beach with gently shelving shores and clear blue sea.
Ibiza town attracts a fashionable and more international crowd and is home to many of Ibiza's famous nigh clubs including Pacha. It is also packed with trendy upmarket bars and restaurants and also attracts a colourful gay and transvestite crowd.
Day time hours in Ibiza are not just for sleeping though; there are many things to see and do including a good selection of boat trips and bus trips. It is worth exploring the island to get a feel for what it is really about. The Hippy Market in Es Cana is a unique place to soak up the atmosphere and do some shopping while the boat trip to Es Vedera the famous island land mark with a mystical history allows you to relax and take in the stunning scenery. The Aguamar Water Park is also a great fun day trip and something the whole family can enjoy.
