Beach Holiday Essentials May Bust Your Budget
Posted:

The Sun travel section today has released a very interesting article which points out that "Pester Power" can add £200 per child to a beach break!  This figure has been estimated based on all the little things you end up buying your little ones on holiday from a pair of Jelly Shoes and a bucket and spade to ice creams and sun lounger hire.

The cost seems to vary between holiday destinations for these daily holiday essentials with Vendee in France proving most expensive out of the resorts compared.  Sunny Beach in Bulgaria was the cheapest followed closely by Alcudia in Majorca.  Middle of the road destinations in terms of expense on beach items included Corfu in Greece, Portugal in the Algarve and Marmaris in Turkey.  Sun lounger prices seemed to vary the most with loungers costing 4 times as much to hire in Croatia and France when compared to Turkey and Cyprus.

It just goes to show that no matter how much you shop around for holiday deals you may end up busting your budget on items you had not accounted for when you get there.  These beach holiday items do not even include things like eating out which is something most of us budget for.  These are just extras which are part and parcel of your holiday once you get there.

More than one in 20 families spend more than £200 per child by giving in to demands for beach toys, ice creams and activities.

And on average parents admitted forking out almost £80 per child on beach holiday extras they hadn't budgeted for.

For couples looking for a romantic break or those able to travel further afield then the Carribbean Islands and Mexico are a good option. There are some good all inclsuive deals to be found.

There are a number of advantages to taking holidays in February. The first is that the beaches are quieter and you can find yourself a nice spot on the beach without having to rush to get there early for a sun lounger. Towns and resorts are quieter so it's easier to walk around and enjoy the surroundings. And because the weather is not at it's hottest it's a much nicer climate for visiting cities and having days out. Sometimes in the summer months the heat makes sight seeing impossible.

And if you are into ski holidays or snow boarding then February is a great time of year to travel as snow is at it's best in many ski resorts in France, Italy and also in Austria. There are a number of companies offering some good ski packages for February.

On the most popular weeks for February holidays is of course the February half term. Prices tend to increase during that week as it's a popular time for families to get away while the kids are off school.

If you're lucky enough to be flexible with your travel dates then it really is cheaper to travel outside the half term week. Be aware also that the half term dates will vary from area to area and so the price of your holiday may depend on your local airport. Aside from the half term period, prices for holidays in February tend to be much cheaper than other times of the year.

All Inclusive Holidays in February

All inclusive holidays are more popular than ever before, especially in relation to destinations where the currency is strong against the pound. You will find that your spending money once converted to Euros for example is a lot less than you might have expected. It makes sense to book a holiday where most of your day to day living costs are included, so all you have to worry about is enjoying yourself.

Families especially will benefit from all inclusive deals. If you have a family you will be familiar with constant requests from children on holiday for things such as drinks and ice creams. All of these things soon add up and you will find that an all inclusive holiday can really provide good value for money.

But where do you get the best deals? We have been carrying out some research into travel companies providing all inclusive packages and can recommend Thomson Holidays for all inclusive beach holidays in Europe and further afield. And it's not only families who can benefit. Couples can get some fantastic bargains to places in the Carribbean and other far flung destinations where all inclusive really is all inclusive.

February tends to be a popular time for all inclusive holidays to the Carribbean, Mexico, Cyprus and Egypt where the climate is warm and there are some beautiful golden beaches to enjoy. The places tend to be quieter and more peaceful too so are ideal for a relaxing break when you fancy some sun and relaxation.

Sun Protection Made Easy
Posted:

When you go on holiday from the UK to a warmer climate you are advised to use sun protection suitable for your skin type. It can be very confusing knowing which one to use what with all of those numbers and letters on the bottles and what exactly is the difference between UVA and UVB rays?

But help is at hand!  It doesn't matter which brand you use, as long as it has a Sun Protection Factor (SPF) in it and you have not had any problems with that brand's skin products before.

All brands are tested and the cheaper ones are just as effective if used properly. It's advisable to use at least a SPF 15 wherever you are going and higher if your skin is fair and so more prone to burning. A SPF 15 will give you over 90% protection.

It's also best to go for a waterproof variety as even if you are not going in the water, these creams tend to keep you protected longer as they are not easily washed, rubbed or sweated off your skin by day to day activities.

Try to get a sunscreen which is labelled broad spectrum as this will protect you from UVA and UVB rays.UVB rays are the rays most sun creams were originally designed to protect you from.  This type of ray burns the skin and is strongest in the summer months.

These rays only have the strength the penetrate the lop layer of your skin, the epidermis and are responsible for darkening (tanning) of the skin.  Where this occurs in small areas, these are known as age spots or brown spots.UVA rays are actually far more damaging to the skin and yet it has only been more recently that sun creams have started protecting against this type of ray.

This is because it is only in recent years that scientists have discovered just how harmful these rays can be.  This type of ray penetrate through to the second layer of skin, the dermis, and are responsible for premature ageing.

Our top 5 tips for a safe holiday are:-

1.  Spend time in the shade between 11 and 3
2.  Make sure you never burn
3.  Aim to cover up with a t-shirt, hat and sunglasses
4.  Remember to take extra care with children
5.  Use factor 15+ sunscreen

Airport Security
Posted:

There is set to be a summer of chaos ahead for holidaymakers as the new airport security measures come into force as of 1st July 2007. Security has been tightened as Britain's risk of terrorist attacks has been moved up to critical level, following the attacks in London and Glasgow.  These measures look set to bring chaos and delays to UK airports.

Every single passenger will now be frisked going through security and anyone raising greater suspicion will be sent for a a more thorough search.  Passengers who fit the "profile" of suicide bombers such as young men and women of Asian appearance will face greater scrutiny.

Under the new rules a larger proportion of hand luggage will be searched by hand as opposed to the x-ray screening machines.  All current rules on hand luggage remain.

One new measure set to cause some disruption is the fact that no cars will be allowed in the drop off areas at airports.  This will mean that taxis and cars will be directed to short stay car parks and holidaymakers will have to walk with their cases to the airport terminal.

All of these measure are of course for our own safety an therefore although delays are likely holidaymakers are urged to co-operate.  if you are looking to travel in the next few months keep an eye out on the latest government travel advices and aim to get to the airport about 3 hours before your flight.

Family Beach Holidays in Dubrovnik Croatia
Posted:

Easily accessible from Austria and Italy, with more and more airlines and tour operators extending their routes to include this European gem, there really is no excuse not to opt for a family beach holiday in Croatia. With over 5,835km of coastline, Croatia is becoming an increasingly popular tourist destination, where sun-worshippers looking to take advantage of Croatia's status as one Europe's sunniest countries exist happily alongside adrenaline junkies who can enjoy a large variety of water sports. The problem, then, is not how to get there, or indeed why, but where to go.

Whilst the opportunity to stay in a light-house may hold a certain novel appeal, if it's family-friendly accommodation and entertainment you're after, one of the best places to head for is the historic city of Dubrovnik, where the self-catering apartments, hotels, and villas on offer provide easy access to its many beaches.

Sharing is name with the legendary beach in Rio de Janeiro is the long, shingly, Copacabana beach, a firm family favourite, where an on-site dive centre makes the opportunity to explore the sparkling Adriatic Sea a must. Water sports too are popular; water-polo and surfing for the teenagers, and banana rides and a sea slide for the little ones. The ability to rent sun loungers and parasols or relax in a beach-front bar or restaurant ensures that all tastes are catered for.

The larger Lapad beach is situated in an area regularly regarded as being one of the most picturesque areas in Dubrovnik. With a supervised swimming area protected from boats and water bikes, this is the perfect place to go for a dip, where the two café-bars and a restaurant will be sure to satisfy the appetite worked up after a brisk swim in the calm waters of the Adriatic.

If you choose to stay in one of the hotels in the Lapad area, you can take advantage of their privately owned beaches that are partly open to the public and hire a sea kayak to explore them in more detail. Neptun beach to the North is an unspoilt, desert island utopia, and a great place to watch the sunset. Splendid beach also offers the perfect opportunity to escape the crowds, but if you fancy a bit of hustle and bustle with plenty on offer, then head to Vis. This pebbly beach is where you'll get the previously recommended sea kayak. After a leisurely lunch at the beach restaurant and a quick zip round the other beaches, make your way back to Vis in order to experience one of the beach parties that are regularly organized there.

Perfect for children of all ages, and parents alike, a family beach holiday in Dubrovnik offers all the expected fun in a location just that little bit different that will have your friends wondering aloud; "now, why didn't I think of that first?"

Lake Garda Holidays
Posted:

Italy is a very popular European Holiday destination. The area surrounding Lake Garda is one of great natural beauty and visitors flock here during the spring and summer to enjoy the stunning scenery and wonderful atmosphere.

This is a very romantic place and has become a popular choice for a romantic holiday and even a very popular wedding destination. Many weddings take place in the castle of Malchesnie and you will often catch a glimpse of wedding parties enjoying the special day.

In recent years Lake Garda has also become a firm family favourite. The climate, family restaurant culture and added benefit of having family friendly places to visit such as Garda Land mean that this is now a family holiday hot spot. The pretty town of Malchesnie is very popular with families and couples and is particularly popular now with British Holiday Makers. Away from the Lake the Italian beach resort of Lido de Jeslo is also a good choice for families.

The resort of Salò on the western shore of the Lake is probably the most fashionable resort on Lake Garda and a firm favourite with Italian holidaymakers and has many designer shops, boutiques, fabulous restaurants and a quiet and very sophisticated atmosphere.

There are many types of accommodation available ranging from private villas in the hills to luxury hotels and more budget friendly self catering accommodation. Most hotels offer half board or bed and breakfast options which con prove good value for money. If you choose to go self catering then you will be able to find everything you need at the spa supermarkets which can be found in most towns.

Eating out here is pure heaven for foodies with most restaurants producing fresh Italian lake Gardaspecialities and pasta and pizza featuring strongly on most menus. Gellaterias can be found on almost every corner and there are also many fresh bakeries dotted around selling wonderful fresh bread, pastries and pizza slices which are great for lunch on the move. Most restaurant meals end with a shot of Limonchello which is the locally produced lemon liqueur.

Evenings here are relaxed affairs usually centring on a long leisurely meal and children are very welcome in restaurants and bars. There are a few more lively bars too but this is certainly not the place for wall to wall discos and karaoke bars.

During the day you can enjoy lounging by the pool of your accommodation, taking a walk along the lakeside or even taking a cable car trip. If you are looking to explore more of Italy then why not take one of the many trips of offer to the historic cities of Venice or Vienna.  Shopaholics could head to Milan for the ultimate shopping experience.

Dominican Republic Beach Holidays
Posted:

The Dominican Republic has established itself as a firm favourite for British holiday makers. Many Brits now flock here throughout the year for the stunning beaches, dramatic scenery and amazing luxury hotels. This area has a reputation for being the most affordable Caribbean destinations and this is very true.  Affordable here does not mean basic though, most hotels here are 4 or 5 star complexes which are really resorts in themselves.

These resorts are large and attractive with many having direct beach access and amazing swimming pools. Most of the hotels cater very well to the needs of family groups with many having excellent children's clubs and play parks as well as shallow pools for children.

All inclusive is the way to go here and many hotels offer 24 hour all inclusive packages, this means that it is possible to arrive without any spending money at all and have a very enjoyable holiday. Most hotels here have a good selection of places to eat and drink. Some hotels have as many as 10 different restaurants and offer a range of cuisines such as Italian, Chinese, Mexican and traditional American style Buffets.

There are also usually many bars to choose from including sports bars, show bars and piano bars. On an all inclusive package most drinks, snacks, mini bar drinks and even room service may be included as well as a range of activities including some water sports.

The Caribbean was once seen as a very expensive and luxurious destination and although it is undeniably luxurious it does not have to cost a lot and many people find that it actually costs less to come here on an all inclusive basis than to go to Europe on a seemingly cheap self catering holiday. With the recent exchange rates favouring the Euro, eating out on holiday in Europe can be rather expensive and even self catering can prove costly in some resorts. Here once you have booked your stay almost everything is included and you do not need to worry about spending money. All inclusive is incredible value for money. Cocktails, ice cream, pool side snacks? What ever you want, you can have without worrying about the cost.

The Dominican Republic is a really beautiful country and there are many things to see and do here. There are 5 main resorts here each offering something different.

Punta Cana and Bavaro on the east coast are probably the most popular destinations. This is really two resorts in one which stretches round the east of the island meaning that the beaches will differ with some being golden Atlantic beaches and some being white Caribbean sands. This area is really stunning and is made up of large hotel complexes. This is a developing area and It is not recommended that guests leave the hotels at night without a guide here but the resorts are very safe and with so much to do there will be no need to search out alternative nightlife.

Playa Dorada in the North is lapped by the Atlantic meaning that the beaches here are golden sands but still very beautiful. This resort is smaller than Bavaro but has a more intimate feel. This is a quiet area of the Dominican Republic and many guests here do decide to explore the areas outside of the hotels. Indeed tourism makes up the majority of income for people her and so foreign visitors are made very welcome in the shops and bars here.

The smaller southern resort of Bayahibe is set on a stunning Caribbean beach. The white sands and calm waters here are what make many tourists choose this area. This area is less developed and has just a few large hotel complexes.

There are many wonderful excursions to enjoy in the Dominican Republic. Safari Tours are popular and allow you to both see the stunning countryside and visit Traditional Dominican Villages, schools and shops. Santa Domingo is the capital city and many tour operators offer trips here to soak up some culture and indulge in some shopping.

Saona Island is one of the most popular trips. This full day excursion will take you by, bus and then by boat to the stunning island of Saona. Here you can enjoy a beach BBQ, unlimited rum and also swim in the calm blue waters. If you are lucky you may also see and even get to hold a giant star fish. Quad biking and Zip line excursions are also available and a must for adrenalin junkies.

These are just a few of the many trips you can enjoy here and of course with so much to do in your resort you may never feel the need to venture out!

Other amenities in the hotel include a shop and hairdressing salon.

So if you are looking for a five star hotel in Cyprus these two hotels provide all you need for an enyoyable and luxurious break.  For honeymooners especially there are some extra offers to make your holiday special.  Families too will enjoy the comfort, luxury and entertainment on offer.  Paphos and Limassol are both gorgeous destinations in Cyprus and the hard decision is going to be deciding which of these 5 star hotels to book.

Beach Holidays on a Shoestring
Posted:

For us Brits our yearly trip to sunnier climates is one thing we just can't do without. Heading off for a week or two in the sun not only gives us something to look forward to during the cold winter but also gives us precious time off work to spend with out family or friends. So in today's credit crunch you will be pleased to know that whatever your income, affordable holidays can be found.

Independent travel usually works out cheaper than booking a package deal. Budget airlines now travel to many European holiday destinations such as Palma in Majorca, Ibiza, Alicante in Spain and Rome in Italy. Booking you travel and hotel also allows greater flexibility with dates and the number of night you wish to stay. If a whole week is out of the question the 4 of 5 nights many be better for you or if a week is just not long enough the 8 or 9 nights can be booked. This is something that you usually can not do with package holidays. Hotels also tend to be cheaper this was and you are not paying a "middle man".

Self catering- self catering used to be a very good idea if you were on a tight budget. Cooking for yourself provided a cheaper alternative to eating out every night or booking meal in with your trip. Today though the exchange rate means that eating out has become rather expensive and the supermarkets are certainly no cheaper than at home, so you may be better off booking all inclusive of half board.

These options certainly provide value for money and mean that once you have paid for your holiday there is very little expenditure once you get there. All inclusive typically includes non alcoholic and local alcoholic drinks for most of the day and evening as well as full board meals and some snacks such as ice cream, burgers, chips and sandwiches. Some hotels even offer 24 hour all inclusive and all inclusive room service. This option really comes in to its own if you have children as there is no need to worry when they ask you for a snack or another drink as they will usually be included.

If you don't like to be in the grounds of your hotel all the time then don't worry, all inclusive packages often include picnic lunches or sandwiched which can be taken with you. All inclusive hotels also tend to have excellent entertainment and activity programs which are also included. Even non motorised water sports can be enjoyed at not extra cost.

All inclusive holidays often look a little expensive on paper but you really do need little if any spending money. It is possible to not spend a penny once you arrive at your resort which makes the holiday excellent value for money!

If you like more flexibility then half board may be a better option. Breakfast and dinner will be included with this option meaning that you can cook for yourself at lunch time or just grab a snack while you are our and about. Drinks will not be included though and even water will have to be purchased so you will need a reasonable amount of spending money. However the breakfasts served up are very good and varied and can really fill you up till dinner and the evening meals are usually very good quality too. Overall it tends to work out cheaper to go half board now than to eat out each day in an averagely priced European family restaurant.

If you do prefer to go self catering them remember that prices will have gone up recently due to the exchange rate and so eating out in particular is expensive now. The supermarkets tend to be a little more than at home but not much, so you can do a weekly shop as you would at home and make use of your self catering facilities. This option does give you the greatest flexibility as you can eat whenever you choose rather than at set restaurant times. You can also choose where to eat. Your apartment, balcony, the beach, or a sandwich at the poolside the choice is yours.

Most hotels have play parks for children which are free of charge and evening family entertainment. You may need to pay for the kids clubs but they are usually inexpensive and are great fun for the kids. Of course the pool and the beach cost nothing either and are great places to spend you days soaking up the European sunshine.

Cheap Egypt Beach Holidays
Posted:

Egypt is a country with loads to offer as it contains some amazing beaches and some of the clearest waters around. But as well as that it is also a country steeped in histroy and if you are lucky enough to get out and explore as part of your holiday you could choose to see the famous Cairo pyraminds or the Valley of the Kings in Luxor. The sites and scenery in this region are second to none.

but of course many people choose to come to Egypt for a last minute beach holiday and never leave their luxurious hotel because they may not need to. The hotels tend to be of a 4 and 5 star standard and really do have everything you need from all inclusive meals and drinks to glorious private beaches and lovely pools and even spas. If you are looking to get away from it all and just relax then a cheap beach holiday in Egypt could be just the ticket.

Egypt has been a popular place to visit for diving holidays for many years and it's easy to see why. The coral reefs in this area and sea life are easily accessible and make for an amazing diving experience. You can take organised diving trips out into the sea or even just try a bit of snorkelling from the beach next to your hotel. You will see some amazing fish and colourful coral.

In comparison to other countries Egypt is still a very affordable place for a luxury holiday especially in the winter when the weather is still nice and in comparison to places like the Carribean, Egypt is more convenient to get too and cheaper too. Winter is a good time to visit Egypt as the weather is a perfect climate, no too hot and stuffy as it can get in the height of summer. If you are wanting to go site seeing in cities such as Luxor then it is even more important to go when the weather is not so hot, as this makes it unbearable for walking around and bus trips to see the famous sites. It is also hotter in the cities than on the coast as you will find with most places.

Of course the most popular and well known Egyptian beach resort is Sharm El Sheikh with a host of luxury hotels right along the beach front and most with their own private stretch of beach. The rooms are also luxurious many with 2 double or queen sized beds as standard and can provide excellent value for money on a half board or all inclusive basis. If you like to go shopping or eat out then nearby Naama Bay provides a cultural strip of shops, bars and restaurants for you to sample. You can reach Naama Bay by taxi from the main hotels in Sharm El Sheikh and the taxi ride is about 10-15 minutes. You will find the taxis very cheap as well.

You can reach Egypt from the UK in about 5 and a half hours and this makes it a more convenient choice than long haul destinations for families with children.  There are two main airports, Sharm El Sheikh and Hurghada.  Both are served by many budget airlines now and so you can get to Egypt cheaper than ever before.  Resorts in the Hurghada also make a great alternative to Sharm El Sheikh which lovely beaches and some great bars and restaurants.

If you are wanting to save money then it's a good idea to book well in advance to get an early booking discount, or book at the last minute to try and get a cancellation.  If you booking your flight and hotel separately then you should try and book your flight as early as you can as flight prices increase the closer you get to the departure date.

Bulgaria is actually one of Eastern Europe's fastest developing nations and it's only about 3 and a half hours flight time from the UK. The affordability of Bulgaria makes it a good option for those on a budget looking for a cheap beach holiday or a cheap ski break. Bovorets is currently Bulgaria's most talked about Ski resort as it is undergoing a £400 million expansion in 2014 and could be a lucrative area to holiday in once complete. Sofia is the capital of Bulgaria and has it's very own ski resort called Vitosha which is based on a mountain overlooking the centre.

The most popular resorts for cheap summer beach holidays include Sunny Beach which is actually Bulgaria's largest resort, with the longest and widest strip of beach.  The hotels are lined up all along the Bulgaria beach front and it's easy to see why this resort gets the name "Sunny Beach".  You will find the people very friendly in this region and only too happy to assist you if you need any help or advice about where to go and what to do.

Sunny Beach Resort in Bulgaria is just 35km north of the city of Bourgas and from here you can get to most areas easily if you like to get out and about and explore.  Sunny Beach is also a safe haven for families with children and was also awarded the prestigious Blue Flag International prize for proven ecological advantages.

With over a hundren hotels in the Sunny Beach area alongsode two established campsites you should be able to find somewhere to stay to suit your budget and also the size of your family.  You won't be stuck for things to do in this region as there are an abundance of retsaurants as well as other entertainment.  For a livlier night out you might want to head to one of the taverns to see a folklore show or maybe head out to a nightclun or disco.  There are also some casinos which stay open until late.

If you are into sports and like to stay active during your holiday then Bulgaria does not disappoint.  There are facilities in the region for tennis, bowling, beach volleyball, hand gliding, mini golf and loads more.

For those who love watersports then you could indulge in a spot of water ski-ing, sailing or maybe just taking out a gentle paddle boat.  The choices are endless.

Sunny Beach itself is based around a wide semi circle of a bay with lovely soft sand a shoreline which slopes into the sea gently.  From May until September weather tends to stay nice and Bulgaria is recommended for a beach holiday during those months.

Bulgaria may not be somewhere that you know much about as it hasn't been as popular for holidaysas say France and Spain for British people until recently. A typical Bulgarian meal might include a Ta Shopska Salad made of lettuce and grated local cheese, lamb drob sarma with mint and yoghurt or any meat stew.

So if this sounds like the type of place that appeals to you why not check out the deals on offer.  You can stay in a good quality hotel at extremely reasonable prices and if you are prepared to book at the last minute you could save even more money. Or if you're the type of person that likes to book in advance you will have more chance of securing the hotel of your choice as well as the travel dates of your choice.

Cheap Beach Holidays
Posted:

Beach holidays have always been a popular choice for Brits as we get to escape the dismal British weather and head off to sunnier climates to enjoy some time relaxing and enjoying ourselves with our families or partners in beachside locations. Traditionally package holidays have tended to offer the most choice as they offer flights, hotels and transfers to beach resorts in places such as Greece, Majorca, and Spain which would otherwise be expensive to get too.

In recent times things have changed and cheap beach holidays can be even cheaper if you are prepared to put in some work yourself and source yourself a bargain flight from your local airport.  Places like Palma in Majorca and Tenerife South are busy airports now served by loads of budget flights throughout the UK.  It could work out cheaper for you to book a flight and then shop around online for a hotel to suit your needs and budget.

This will also give you more flexibility as you will not be stuck with the hotels your travel agent can offer but can choose from any hotel with availability online and could save money as you are cutting out the travel agents commission and booking direct with the hotel.  You may find that your cheap beach holiday can become more luxurious as you could get say a 4 star hotel for the same price as a 3 star through a travel agent.

But when putting together your cheap beach holiday, beware of hidden costs.  The main one to watch out for is transfers.  Although some countries have airports close to the beach resorts and are a short taxi ride away, other places are not so easy to get too and you could end up paying out a fortune in taxi fares when if you had booked a package holiday for a bit more transfers would have been included.

There are some really good websites out there which solve this problem too however.  Sunshine.co.uk have a great range of budget flights and hotels and you can put together your cheap beach holiday yourself bu choosing a flight to suit you then a hotel to match.  But as an added advantage you can also book tranfers in most resorts saving you time and money.

This means you are getting package holiday benefits but paying the price of booking flights and hotels direct.  This works out best for everyone and really can give you the best chance of getting a cheap beach holiday from your local airport.

Sunshine have a fantastic cheap beach holidays from your local airport section.  You can simply choose your local airport and will then be shown all the latest deals from that airport to loads of different destinations. This is especially helpful if you are looking for a cheap beach holiday and you don't really mind where you go.

For example at the time of writing I have tried this seach for a cheap beach holiday from Newcastle airport.  There are loads of options open to me from 7 nights in Ibiza self catering from just £171.82 per person to 7 nights self catering in Tenerife in Los Cristianos from just £237.70.  There really are some bargains to be had.  And if you are looking to travel in the next few weeks you will get even better deals.

So the things to remember when looking for a cheap beach holiday at the cheapest price possible is that there are some great deals out there, it can be cheaper to book a flight and hotel separately yourself but beware of transfer costs.  Or you could use a site like Sunshine.co.uk and get the flights and hotels at great prices and book your transfers online as well.  Cheap beach holidays are becoming cheaper than ever to the extent that many people have started to take more than one beach holiday a year or combining a beach holiday with a city break later in the year.

Winter Holidays
Posted:

Getting away from the grey of winter will be good for both you and your family. It will work wonders on your stress levels as well. Wouldn't you love to get away to a sunny location away from the cold and damp?

Sounds like brilliant idea! But what if you need to stay where you are? Well, the only thing to do is then to make the best of your situation. Weather in and around Europe is quite unpredictable during off-season months. But you can use this time to get around the city and see tourist locations when they are not overcrowded with summer and peak season tourists. Beaches can also be relaxing in the off-season if there is no rain. Overall, it's a great time to get to know the locals and their lifestyle.

Take in the city sights

Everyone flocks to Europe during the summer months. But those that have experimented with winter holidays know that Europe takes on the glow of a fairy place in the winter months. Budapest is a fantastic city to visit over the holiday season.

You will thoroughly enjoy the light snowfall as you walk the streets of this old and remarkable city. You will get lost in a past era rich in culture and mythology. You will love the feel of history that Budapest offers. A hotel that will encourage this fantasy is located on Embassy road and is called The Andrassy Hotel. Its architecture is breathtaking!

If shopping is on your 'to-do' list, then you should definitely head east towards the land of deserts. UAE is a new world built from scratch and offers so much for shoppers and tourists alike. Here an old hotel is one that opened in 1992. With tourism a big part of the economy you will find UAE a friendly and hospitability location for your winter holiday. There is a lot to see and do in Dubai but you may want to fill your wallet as costs can be high.

A snowy holiday

If you're the traditional sort that believes a winter vacation should include lots of snow then choose the Alps! There's nothing better than an Alpine holiday to put you in the best of moods. Leaving snow out of a winter holiday would be a mistake. Thankfully, the UK is close to the Alps and a bevy of social winter activities. You certainly do not need to be a skier to head for the Alps. Slay rides, winter balls, eating and drinking in front of roaring fires- all that lies in store. It's a once in a lifetime experience and you would be sorry if you did not try it at least once when you had the chance.

Educate Yourself

A winter holiday may not allow you to visit the beach everyday, but it does give you an opportunity to explore the history and culture of a city. You can spend time at the libraries and the museums or just sit in the local parks and savour the atmosphere around. You can also wine and dine at famous resorts as their prices would have lowered due to off season rates.

Villa Holidays
Posted:

Most people want to get away from home yet got to a place with all the comforts of home. A villa holiday is just the thing that you need. These mini-homes offer all the amenities of a home but are set in a scenic location away from the hustle and bustle of daily life. This is why villa holidays are growing in popularity.

The right villa for you

Deciding on the right villa can be tricky business. It helps to check what the villa offers well in advance. This way you won't be faced with a nasty surprise once you get there. You should be able to find information on the Internet or in a brochure. Amenities differ from location to location. Mediterranean villas usually have pools while UK villas are set in wooded settings with close access to walking trails. In either case, the villa will come furnished with ample room and space to enjoy your stay.

Here are a few considerations to keep in mind prior to selecting a villa for your holiday.

    * The general nature of the region
    * Is the villa a stand alone property
    * Is it child safe
    * Do the owners allow pets
    * Is it near facilities such as markets, hospitals etc

It helps to know if the basics are taken care of before you reach your villa. This will start your holiday adventure off on the right note. Some great choices in location include: Plouaret Cotes dAmor, Normandy and Javea, Javea, Costa Blanca, Spain. Any one of these will guarantee a great holiday!

Exploring your new environment

One of the best things about a villa holiday is that you can become a temporary resident of that particular region. It's a great opportunity to get to know the flavour of the region. You can explore the best walking trails, dine at the cosy restaurants and even go shopping on market day. It's all about fitting in and being a part of that community.

Market day is an ideal time to do your shopping and to get to know the village folk. Most places come to life around this time. So apart from getting your groceries you can indulge in some town gossip and local news.

Pace yourself

When planning a villa holiday don't try to fit everything in. If you do, you might end up tiring yourself at the end of your vacation. Explore the region in the surrounding areas but don't go too far. It's about savouring the magic of one place and leaving with happy memories and maybe a handful of new friends. Don't worry about slowing down. After all, you want to return home rested and relaxed.

A good morning means something

Small towns or villages with beautiful villas are ideal for a villa holiday. Here, you can leave your doors unlocked and let your children play in the yard. You will meet people who say good morning and actually wait for your reply. That's the allure of a small town villa holiday.

Valentines Day Breaks
Posted:

When it comes to Valentines Day, it's important to be with someone you love. What's even better is if you can surprise your loved one with a quick get-a-way on this special occasion. Finding a place for a special get-a-way needs a little advance planning. After all you will want this day to be remembered for a long time to come. In the UK, you have several options to explore.

So it boils down to what you and your partner consider 'special'.  Depending upon where you are located in the UK there are many close by options for such spontaneity to occur. There are really only three major choices in this quick spontaneity: how far, how long and how much.

Quality time

Valentines Day should be enjoyed from start to finish. That's why you'll want the shortest possible travel time so you can spend quality time out of the car. You could try a trip to a nice hotel which has a restaurant with a romantic setting or perhaps a club which has the right romantic atmosphere. If you want more privacy you could head for secret hide-away. In either case, you should aim for maximum time together as a couple.

Secret hide-a-way in the UK

If you happen to be looking for the secret hide-a-way, then there are fantastic options located in UK but you need to know where to look. Secluded hide-aways can be found all around the country. Most come with a warm and cosy fireplace and an extremely comfortable bed. Looking into the heart of England you will find the Ford Farm property in Kilcot. To the North there is Bassenthwaighte in Keswick while in Wales you will find the Bay view Cottages. The East of England holds the Rosemere in Norfolk Broads. Each of these is perfect for a Valentines Day holiday.

Take a bag of goodies

If you are travelling around, then be sure to tell your hotel to arrange wine and flowers well in advance. Or if the hotel doesn't cater to this you can pick them up from the village. You would want to romance your mate and give her the time of her life! You don't have to do something very expensive or fancy. Be thoughtful and sincere. That usually wins all the time.

A longer valentine holiday

If you are planning a longer winter holiday around Valentines Day perhaps a trip across the Channel is a good option. Paris is a great location to romance a loved one. Take the Chunnel train with a sleeper or private cabin. You will love the experience. Have a hotel car waiting for you at your destination. Then you can be whisked away into paradise.  Some really romantic holiday destinations abroad include Cyprus, the Maldives and Barbados.

River Cruises
Posted:

You might have thought about going on a cruise holiday some day, or may have already been on one.  But are you thinking of the traditional cruise holidays that take to the ocean and all of the formalities that traditionally go with such a cruise holiday?

Well these days you can choose to go on river cruises which are far more informal and relaxed than regular ocean cruises.  You still get to see a number of exotic destinations in one holiday but are simply travelling along some of the worlds most famous rivers rather than travelling on the open ocean.  This is ideal for those who get tired of looking at the sea day day after day.

The vessels that travel along the rivers rarely carry more than 300 passengers making these cruises a more intimate experience.

And if you think that travelling along rivers will restrict the places you can see then you would be wrong.  If you think if all the major cities and places in the world most have rivers running through them.  Destinations you can visit include the Rhine which run through the Swiss Alps.  The Rhone which runs through the Swiss Alps, passed Lake Geneva and into France.  You could choose to cruise along the river Nile in Egypt of the Danube. You can even go as far a field as Chine and take a cruise along China's most famous river.

So if you are looking for am holiday with a difference, this is definitely something to think about as you will get to experience many different places in a relaxed informal setting.  And it needn't cost a fortune with so many online travel sites now offering great deals on cruise breaks.  Cosmos specialise in river cruises and have many river cruises on offer at low prices.

Party Holiday Destinations
Posted:

If you have a reason to party, then Europe is the perfect venue. Head for Magaluf in Majorca. This Mecca of nightlife is a popular clubbing venue for those young at heart. You'll be able to find fine accommodations and vacation packages that are quite reasonable. With Brit bars sprinkled over the coastline, the party never ends here. The best time to come here is early autumn or later in spring. Palma Nova and Magaluf should be on your list of places to party!

Great fun for everyone

Apart from partying you can also enjoy water sports along the sandy beaches. There are awesome water parks that will keep you busy. Other activities could include go-karting, jet skiing and kite surfing. It's just an hour away from the airport! If you're planning to stay at Majorca, then  Hipocampo Palace or Serrano Palace, both of which are five-star facilities.

A different tune

If Majorca is not to your liking, then head for Prague. Apart from castles, churches and bridges, it pulsates with entertainment and fun. The bars offer a great variety in terms of music and drink. You can jive to rock, pop, R n B, or Latino. It doesn't matter as it is difficult not to have a blast at Prague.

The Island of fun

The Island of Ibiza is a party paradise. One look at Sant Antoni, and you will know you're at the center of entertainment. With world famous clubs and riotous nightlife, Ibiza should be enjoyed between June and October. During other months, the island is quite desolate as it rains almost all the time. For a place to stay you could try Palladium Palace Ibiza which was renovated in the year 2005. The hotel has 420 rooms so it's perfect for a large group. If you prefer something closer to the beach then book a room at Club Goleta/tres Carabela. This beachfront property lies in close proximity to shops and restaurants. If you want a short walk, you can head into Ibiza town which is a close distance away.

There are several options available in you're living in UK. Whether you prefer a quiet family setting along the beaches of North Yorkshire or the bustling party beaches of Spain's Costa Del Sol and Island of Majorca, you can be sure to find it all at a close distance. However, deciding your destination can be tricky, so be sure you know what you want to do once you get there. Apart from soaking up the sun on the beach, you may want to combine a few more activities to your holiday. Therefore, take a good look at your holiday group and individual preferences before heading out to a beach destination.

Crossing the Channel

If your heart is set on wide, long and hot sandy beaches then head for the South or East of the UK. The weather may be a little tough to gauge but the Mediterranean region usually promises glorious weather just ideal for beach outings. You can laze around in the crystal clear water and get that much-needed tan lying on the soft sand. The May-October beach season will welcome you to a refreshing and relaxing time.

Lively Nights

When the beach has lost its charm on you, perhaps it's time for some exploration. Ibiza is a great destination where you will feel like one of the locals. Apart from magnificent beaches that this location offers, there is plenty of opportunity to explore the territory. However, just because Ibiza can be an explorer's delight does not mean that it rolls up the streets at night. Cas Pla, Puetro SanMiguel is located right in the heart of the party district. You will enjoy the club scene and the great atmosphere it offers. Club lights can be seen long after the break taking sunset so you don't have to worry about going to bed early!

Another must-see location is Salou that presents a plethora of exciting activities. Families as well as singles can be kept more than busy at this beach Mecca. You can take advantage of the shallow draft of the deep blue or the world class theme park which promises lots of fun for the entire family.

A bit of class

If you want your beach holiday experience to include a bit of culture then your destination should be the spectacular crescent bay along the Bodrum Peninsula of Turkey. It is a dream location for culture relaxation and a bit of fun. You can enjoy the nightlife and the history of the region is unmatched.

The United Kingdom enjoys a central location making it easy to reach many beach holiday destinations.

Honeymoon Destinations

Marriage is all about starting a new life with your partner. The days following a wedding, should be extra special. It's a wonderful time to savour and enjoy. Everything needs to be perfect. It's all about relaxing together and creating good memories for the future. That's why it's important for a couple to get away together. But how do you find the right destination for a honeymoon?

Well, to begin with, discuss it with your partner. You would need to find a place that's romantic for both of you. Share your ideas and you will surely be able to agree on a specific location. Here are a couple of ideas that can help you in your choice.

Comfort and care

One option would be to stay in one place for your whole holiday. A cottage set in a beautiful location would be a great way to spend time with each other. Cottages in Italy, Spain and Portugal hold a magical charm and offer amenities better than home. Byblos Andaluz in Majis Costa is a great stop over and will give your marriage a great beginning. Many cottages in Italy, from Tuscany to Venice offer terraces overlooking the ocean. Some overlook spectacular lakes and are situated near citrus groves. While staying at these cottages you can enjoy the local flavour and delicacies that can be found at nearby villages. You won't want to leave the comforts of these cottages after a short stay here.

More than just one

If your honeymoon can be extended to a week or two, then try staying at two or three cottages at different locations. This will give you the best of different worlds. In this way you'll have complete privacy and you can experience the personalities of different regions. You could begin your stay at a cottage in Tuscany for a week and then move on to a cottage along the coast of Portugal. Wouldn't that be fun!

Mixing it up

If you like the cottage idea then there's plenty you can do to spice your honeymoon adventure. For instance, book a cottage for the first and last weeks of your holiday. Fill up the middle with some touring between cities and landmarks. For example, you can start your honeymoon at a cottage in Tuscany. From there tour through the cities of Geneva and Budapest and complete your holiday at a cottage in Nice. Doesn't' that sound nice!? Plaza Lucchesi near Ponte Vecc hio is fantastic stop to try.

Closer to home

You need not travel very far to enjoy a good honeymoon. Travel time is usually spent in an airplane or getting to and from the airport. To avoid that, pick a location near home. That way you get more quality time together, getting to know one another. You won't find it difficult to find a cottage somewhere close by. Most rented cottages are situated in gorgeous locations with all the amenities. Quite a few have pools and open lawns. These accommodations are designed to bring you maximum comfort.

Hobby Holidays
Posted:

We all have passions. Activities that bring us joy. It could be golf, skiing, bird watching or even just walking. But these activities if enjoyed truly make life worth living. Unfortunately, many of us just don't have the time to indulge in our passions. Work just keeps getting in the way. It takes a concentrated effort to get away for a while.

Try taking a holiday that is in keeping to your hobby or passion. It will help you stay connected to who you are and what you enjoy doing. A holiday can be truly enjoyed when you participate in an activity that brings you happiness. Organising a hobby holiday can be lots of fun.

Something for everyone

Having a partner that shares your passion is an added bonus. This makes it all the more enjoyable. But what if this is not the case. What if your partner has different interests? In that case, choose a location that offers more than one activity. For example, if you're a golf enthusiast then head for Scotland. This should be a natural choice considering Scotland's golf history. However, this location is ideal as it offers so much more than just golf. Consider the Scottish Southern highlands, Dungrianach. In this location you have three golf courses, natural walking trails, birding, shopping, castles and restaurants are all near by.

Being a golf enthusiast you can thoroughly enjoy yourself all day and your partner can do some serious shopping and dining while in town. If this sounds like fun to you, then try Tods Mill in Linithgow. It has nicely lit rooms and panoramic views that will add an extra glow to your vacation.

Pleasing everybody

When travelling with the family you need to make certain that everyone is having fun. It's vital to choose a location that caters to different ages. Not everybody shares the same passions while on holiday so finding a good location is important. Luckily there are holiday locations that offer activities for varying passions. Two common hobbies include activities around golf and water. Golfers are passionate about their sport and so are those who love water related sports. If you can combine the two, then you've got a great holiday on your hands. You may want to try Park Stile Cottage in this regard. It sleeps 5+ and is located in Broughton-in-Furness.

The beautiful Loch

Loch Lomond in Scotland is a great place for both golf and water sport enthusiasts. Along the Northern edge of the Loch you will find several golf courses to choose from. Comfortable and economical accommodations add to the charm of this locality. If a family member doesn't enjoy both hobbies then they can take in the fresh Scottish air on long walks through the countryside. The beautiful scenery is enough to capture any imagination.

Hobby holidays are a great time to bond with family and friends alike. Whether you're travelling with classmates or cousins there is lots of avenues to explore. Go with the right attitude and you can have a great time honing your talent.

Everybody has heard about the Grand Canal in Venice so why not give the Gritti Palace a try to complete your perfect holiday. Located right on the canal you'll be able to see the city life of Venice.

Soak in the city centres

The great thing about being in a city is that you are always close to all the action. You can explore the place on foot. See what's going on and meet the people. Who knows where it might lead. Frankfurt has a great city centre where culture and pop mix well. If not Frankfurt, then you have the whole of Europe to choose from so jump a flight to somewhere, maybe Venice, Amsterdam or Nice.
