Family Beach Holidays in Dubrovnik Croatia

Posted in Cheap Beach Holidays BLOG

Easily accessible from Austria and Italy, with more and more airlines and tour operators extending their routes to include this European gem, there really is no excuse not to opt for a family beach holiday in Croatia. With over 5,835km of coastline, Croatia is becoming an increasingly popular tourist destination, where sun-worshippers looking to take advantage of Croatia's status as one Europe's sunniest countries exist happily alongside adrenaline junkies who can enjoy a large variety of water sports. The problem, then, is not how to get there, or indeed why, but where to go.

Whilst the opportunity to stay in a light-house may hold a certain novel appeal, if it's family-friendly accommodation and entertainment you're after, one of the best places to head for is the historic city of Dubrovnik, where the self-catering apartments, hotels, and villas on offer provide easy access to its many beaches.

Sharing is name with the legendary beach in Rio de Janeiro is the long, shingly, Copacabana beach, a firm family favourite, where an on-site dive centre makes the opportunity to explore the sparkling Adriatic Sea a must. Water sports too are popular; water-polo and surfing for the teenagers, and banana rides and a sea slide for the little ones. The ability to rent sun loungers and parasols or relax in a beach-front bar or restaurant ensures that all tastes are catered for.

The larger Lapad beach is situated in an area regularly regarded as being one of the most picturesque areas in Dubrovnik. With a supervised swimming area protected from boats and water bikes, this is the perfect place to go for a dip, where the two café-bars and a restaurant will be sure to satisfy the appetite worked up after a brisk swim in the calm waters of the Adriatic.

If you choose to stay in one of the hotels in the Lapad area, you can take advantage of their privately owned beaches that are partly open to the public and hire a sea kayak to explore them in more detail. Neptun beach to the North is an unspoilt, desert island utopia, and a great place to watch the sunset. Splendid beach also offers the perfect opportunity to escape the crowds, but if you fancy a bit of hustle and bustle with plenty on offer, then head to Vis. This pebbly beach is where you'll get the previously recommended sea kayak. After a leisurely lunch at the beach restaurant and a quick zip round the other beaches, make your way back to Vis in order to experience one of the beach parties that are regularly organized there.

Perfect for children of all ages, and parents alike, a family beach holiday in Dubrovnik offers all the expected fun in a location just that little bit different that will have your friends wondering aloud; "now, why didn't I think of that first?"
