There is set to be a summer of chaos ahead for holidaymakers as the new airport security measures come into force as of 1st July 2007. Security has been tightened as Britain's risk of terrorist attacks has been moved up to critical level, following the attacks in London and Glasgow. These measures look set to bring chaos and delays to UK airports.
Every single passenger will now be frisked going through security and anyone raising greater suspicion will be sent for a a more thorough search. Passengers who fit the "profile" of suicide bombers such as young men and women of Asian appearance will face greater scrutiny.
Under the new rules a larger proportion of hand luggage will be searched by hand as opposed to the x-ray screening machines. All current rules on hand luggage remain.
One new measure set to cause some disruption is the fact that no cars will be allowed in the drop off areas at airports. This will mean that taxis and cars will be directed to short stay car parks and holidaymakers will have to walk with their cases to the airport terminal.
All of these measure are of course for our own safety an therefore although delays are likely holidaymakers are urged to co-operate. if you are looking to travel in the next few months keep an eye out on the latest government travel advices and aim to get to the airport about 3 hours before your flight.
